THE DEMAND for the hire of spider lifts has doubled in the last two years, according to a report on the powered access equipment hire market.
The report, by AMA Research, points out that while the overall growth of the Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) hire industry has been stable at two per cent, demand for spider lifts has outstripped other products significantly.
Those other products include Scissor lifts, Boom lifts, Vertical masts/Personal lifts, Vehicle mount lifts and trailer mounted platforms.
A statement from AMA Research said, “All types of event require hired equipment but outdoor events, such as music concerts, festivals, air shows and sporting events, generally demand a wider range of equipment than indoor events, as they require construction of a complete event site infrastructure in what is often essentially an empty field.
“This is likely to impact on demand for powered access equipment, though such equipment may also be required for indoor events.”
According to the research, much of the boost in demand is down to growth in the level of output in the overall construction market, which itself achieved three per cent growth in 2018.
Another growth factor is the UK becoming a top location for major sporting and music events, with these sectors predicted to continue to grow and gain further market share in the future.
The research also found that the powered access equipment hire market is expected to achieve continued growth and reach an estimated £520m by value in 2023.
