OVER 80 roofing industry delegates gathered at The Vox Conference Centre, Birmingham, on Monday (24 June 2019) for the 4th annual Women in Roofing (WinR) conference.
The theme of this years conference was choosing change. Throughout the day, attendees heard from a number of speakers and were able to debate industry-wide issues, propose changes and seek solutions.
Kevin Parr, who oversaw the event, pulled together key points and facilitated structured debate and ideas to share. Kevin is amongst the top speakers recommended by Best 100 Companies and has a wealth of experience in compering events and in the construction industry.
This was followed by a debate that brought to light a lack of roof training provision in some areas of the country. In an attempt to combat the issue, it was suggested that key players from all roof training groups, roofing federations and the CITB all join together to discuss the on-going skills gap. Promotion of the industry as well as attracting and developing new apprentices was also discussed, along with growing concerns regarding the difficulties in obtaining crucial funding.
Six CPD workshops in finance, attitude, health, R&D, specification and management were also available to those who attended.
