THE EASTERN REGION ROOF Training Group (ERRTG) was recently notified that its bid to run three programmes using CITB’s Careers Fund has been successful.
CITB made funding available to ‘influence the influencers’ – as parents, teachers, carers
and careers advisers can have a lot of misconceptions about careers in construction and lack information.
Eastern Roof Training aim is to change that by going into local councils,
schools and associations to provide information, advice and guidance on construction careers.
They will also be hosting practical construction sessions at their training
centre to give influencers the opportunity to test their own construction skills and see how rewarding and enjoyable it can be.
Primary schools project
CITB has also tasked Eastern Roof Training with writing a programme aimed at pre-GCSE
students (9-13-year olds).
Although Eastern Roof Training has done lots of work with high school students before,
this has previously been aimed at 14-year-olds and above, as a way of encouraging them to choose a career in construction once they leave school.
There will be two programmes, one involving EERTG going into primary schools. Here ERRTG will deliver construction awareness sessions, coupled with the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at some hands-on activities.
The second programme will involve those just starting high school attending the training centre for the first time, where they too will receive information advice and guidance along with the opportunity to ‘have a go’ on some of the centre’s roofing training rigs.
Clive Coote, Managing Director at EERTG said, “Our aim, as ever, is to provide a fun, unique experience for all those involved, whilst ensuring we deliver the objectives set out by CITB: to Influence the Influencers and raise awareness of careers in construction among 9-13-year olds.
“We are sure the projects will be a huge success and look forward to getting
