ROOFING DEFECTS are unfortunately all too common and can occur both at the design stage of your project and during the critical construction phases. The latest CPD from Garland UK looks at the most commonly encountered problems in a building’s roof and, importantly, learn how to avoid them in the future.
Specially tailored to specifiers, surveyors and roofing professionals, the RIBA accredited ‘Avoiding Common Roofing Defects’ CPD gives a masterclass in identifying and resolving a wide range of design, application and aesthetic defects in the roofing industry.
Taking a detailed look at the different types of waterproofing systems available in the market today, Garland UK reviews the advantages and disadvantages of bituminous membranes, cold applied liquids, metal roofing and green roof systems, giving practical advice on how to specify the right system for the correct application.
Garland UK’s Head of Technical, Mark Fisher, explains, ‘“This CPD was devised by our technical team as an industry aid, to give clear and practical guidance on roof specification and installation best practices. Every year our technical managers conduct thousands of roof surveys for our customers, and we have been fortunate enough to build an invaluable knowledge base to share with our customers.”
Bringing the educational content to life, the new CPD also includes video footage from real-life roofing projects to showcase defects and challenges in much more detail to help deliver a much more engaging and dynamic way of learning.
Mark adds, “it is essential for us to keep raising the standard in the industry and keep improving how we educate our customers and peers. We are responsible for ensuring the longevity of our roofing specifications that comply with up-to-date industry guidance and building regulations and we know that this CPD will help to advise the best tools and techniques to survey and assess roofs in more detail.”
