Plenty of good news from the North West Roof Training Group as Autumn 2018 approaches.
Employers now have a choice, as finally, we have two Apprentice Training Providers, both offering NVQ2 Roof Slating/Tiling. Bolton College, long established as a Roofing Apprenticeship Provider, and DMR Roofing Academy, Wigan, a specialist training provider in the construction industry, now offering roofing apprenticeships in both Roof Slating/Tiling and shortly, Built Up Felt Roofing, along with OSAT, EWPAR and other short courses. Support for the new Academy from Manufacturers has been staggering, with Redland Tiles, Midland Lead, Hambleside Danelaw, Velux all generously providing products.
Next for our members is a Redland-inspired 2-day Estimating Course, taking pace on 19/20 September and concentrating mainly on tiling/slating and including some flat roofing work. Later in the year, the new Institute of Roofing Course is to be offered – we’re expecting a scramble for places as its around five years since we ran a course in the North West.
Our all-member meeting/AGM is to take place on 4 October at a venue near Haydock, which is mid-point of our huge region encompassing Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and North Wales. Already lined up to speak is our HR Guru, Alex Boyd, plus Mike from the Elan Partnership who will talk about motivation and Max from OUCH Training Team who will speak on why we have accidents and how to influence human behaviour. We’re also scheduling a slot for the second of our roofing apprenticeship forums, to be led by David Rowlands, CITB. Bookings to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Coming up on 10th October is a brand-new initiative to be held at Coleg Cambria, Connah’s Quay, North Wales. To be known as Forces In Construction, it’s being organised by CITB North Wales, & is being supported by the MOD and the Careers Transition Partnership. We’ve taken up the challenge, as it seems that contractors are still relying on friends and family to fill the skills gaps, and here is, potentially, an untapped source of recruitment. Our objective is to showcase roofing opportunities to ex-forces personnel from every rank and background. Group members, Avonside and Longworth are supporting the day, together with Redland, BMI Group who will be displaying hands-on examples of tiling and flat roofing and DMR Academy, highlighting various training opportunities in our industry.
And finally, an Early Bird Offer, open to all throughout the UK.
Take a look at this fantastic offer from our new Training Provider DMR. Not only roofing apprenticeships are offered in the brand-new Roofing Academy, but, providing you are CITB-registered, free one-day assessments, which will give experienced Roof Slating/Tiling operatives NVQ Level 2 in just one day.
This special assessment is known as Experienced Worker Practical Assessment Route (EWPAR). It can even take place on a Saturday!
