Green Roof Set to Blossom over New London Housing Development

ROOFING SUBCONTRACTOR Briggs Amasco has completed a new 1200m2 roof on a brownfield site housing development in south east London.

Briggs Amasco installed IKO Permatec hot melt to create a sealed waterproof layer over which a green roof was installed by Eco Green Roofs.

A temporary irrigation system was connected to help the green roof’s sedum planting become established, and it is hoped that eventually the green roof will help attract insects and increase biodiversity in the area.

Neil Walker, Contracts Manager for Briggs Amasco said, “We chose to work with ECO as we have used them on other projects and they are industry leaders in the green roof field.

“The roof will be visible to residents from the eighth-floor apartments and from the seventh-floor communal terrace, so it’s important that it achieved visual appeal.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the result; it’s the best install I have ever personally seen,” Neil added.

Briggs Amasco has carried out liquid applied waterproofing to the balconies and terraces as well as the roof area, as part of the second phase of the £250 million, 345-apartment block development, led by main contractors, Mace.

The development was designed to contribute to the local community by offering apprenticeships and employment opportunities. It has achieved a BREEAM “very good” rating for sustainable housing and a bronze award for considerate construction.
