Kimpton Fitzroy London, located in the district of Bloomsbury, is the first UK property for the luxury, boutique Kimpton hotel brand.
Named after the original architect of the property Charles Fitzroy Doll, the 334 bedroom hotel stands for vision and craft, history and modernity, and luxury and timelessness.
Lamilux designed, supplied and installed the 3.5 metre wide by 14 metre long PR60 mono-pitch rooflight to complement the hotels Winter Garden providing the ideal area for guests to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings.
The boutique luxury hotel brand is reflected in the architectural flair of the entire restoration, with stunning features paying tribute to the iconic heritage of the building. Faux beams were introduced above the Winter Garden where the 13° sloped LAMILUX rooflight overlooks the stunning interior design.
The glazing division of the rooflight was carefully designed to perfectly align with the faux beams to conceal the mullions and provide maximum daylight. Each of the nine glass panels are an impressive 5m² and weigh a substantial 214kg.
LAMILUX used their knowledge and expertise to complete the installation at this very tricky central London project. An incredibly tight site with no tower crane, meant that we offered just-in-time delivery and installation of materials and worked very closely with the Contractor from an early stage to carefully plan and execute the install on time and within budget. All glass units were hoisted from the loading bay at street level to a loading platform, at roof level. The individual glass units were then wheeled using a glass dolly down a ramp, around a tight corner and then lifted using a scaffold gantry above the rooflight. The glass could then be tracked along with a vacuum lifter to the installed position and fixed into place.
Officially opened in October 2018, Kimpton Fitzroy London is the first of 12 Principle and De Vere hotels to be rebranded in highly desirable UK cities. Lamilux is proud to be an integral part of such a landmark development within the Bloomsbury area of London.
