ON 2 MAY 2019, key players from across the roofing and waterproofing industry went head to head in a bid to be crowned winner of the inaugural Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA) Charity Dragon Boat Regatta.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, played host to the event that attracted 110 people, including contractors and manufacturers from across the UK.
Teams battled it out on the hotel’s lake in 30ft dragon boats each comprising ten paddlers and one drummer. Following morning team building exercises, competitors were challenged to race 200m in a series of heats, with the overall fastest team taking home the winners title.
The regatta saw some impressive displays of paddle power from the Sharmy Army (HD Sharman), the Mighty Ducks (Kemper System), Enter the Dragon (Polyroof), Decothane Dragons (Sika Liquid Plastics), The Sopreme Team (Soprema), the WestWood Warriors (WestWood Liquid Technologies) and the Everlast Tritons (Everlast Group). However, the Proteus Spartans (Proteus Waterproofing) emerged victorious taking the gold medal. Team Popeye (London Seamless Flat Roofing) picked up silver and Moy Story (Moy Materials) went home with the bronze medal.
Prior to the event, the LRWA also asked the public to vote for their favourite logo. During the award ceremony, Rozalind Richardson from Proteus Waterproofing lifted the rubber duck-mounted trophy on behalf of the Spartans.
The regatta was launched to raise vital funds for the LRWA’s nominated charity, Mind. Thanks to the efforts of all those involved, more than £1,400 has been raised so far, but with donations still coming in, this figure is set to rise even further.
