ROOF TRAINING is now available in North Wales through further education college, Coleg Cambria based at its Deeside campus.
Coleg Cambria, together with the Wales National Roofing Training Group (WNRTG), is offering those new to roofing or with little experience, the opportunity to get qualified with a NVQ Level 2 in Roof Slating and Tiling.
Open for booking now, and starting in October, 2019, the course is delivered in short bursts spread over 18 months through the Specialist Applied-Skills Programme (SAP) which means candidates do 26 days of off-site training over 12 months, followed by on-site assessments over six months.
Students receive training in slating, tiling, interlocking tiling and lead welding and bossing and obtain health and safety and LSTA-approved certificates. They also gain access to a blue Skilled Worker CSCS card.
The course is fully funded for CITB registered companies and students will gain a sound basis for a safe and successful career in the roofing industry.
The course has been described as a positive step forward for roofing contractor businesses in the North Wales region, which have, until now, had to send their apprentices as far as Bolton or Caerphilly for training.
Lesley Hughes, Group Training Officer for WNRTG said, “This new roof training course in North Wales brings a convenient and cost-effective training option to roofing contractors in the North Wales region and neighbouring areas.
“Companies wanting to enhance their operatives’ skills and qualifications can get fully-funded training which will benefit their business by improving quality and professionalism and ultimately boost their profitability. Delivered as a SAP, the training can be easily fitted around project commitments and supported with CITB funding it really is a great offer for roofing contractors.”
