Skillbuild is a national careers event showcasing a wide range of construction and other career options for school leavers and young people. It is also the venue for the national Skillbuild competitions in the construction trades, with the winners of regional heats competing to be the best-of-the-best apprentices in their trade.

Attracting audience footfall of 80,000+, this year’s roofing finalist hopefuls will be competing in full public sight for three gruelling days.

Promoting roofing as a career at Skillbuild 2018.

Tasked with completing both a slate and tile roofing rig, according to a design schedule that the roofers will see for the first time only on day-one, the roofing apprentices are judged according to a strict criteria where the accuracy of every measurement is scrutinised and every technique minutely examined.

Simon Dixon, NFRC Head of Training said, “Having successfully competed in the regional heats, the eight finalists now have the chance to show their talent on a national stage.

“Their skills are testament to the fantastic training delivered by colleges and regional training groups, and the tutors who passionately impart their knowledge to the next generation of our young professionals.

“The NFRC and the wider roofing community are extremely grateful to the manufacturers and their staff who give their wholehearted support to the competition in pursuit of raising industry standards.”

At this year’s Skillbuild, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), which organises the roofing competition finals, will be hosting a Roofing Zone showcase. Here will be a roofing careers hub where current roofing apprentices will talk to youngsters interested in entering the roofing sector and answer any questions they may have.

There will also be demonstrations and a ‘Have A Go’ area for young people to try their hands at roofing skills. Supported by BMI UK and Ireland, Cupa Pizarras, Hambleside Danelaw, Marley and Wienerberger, there will be plenty of competitions and prizes to enter on the day.

Altogether, the Roofing Zone promises to be a main attraction at Skillbuild this year!
