The Roofing Corporation was highly commended for its work with apprentices at the annual CITB awards held on 1 November in London.
Nominees were treated to a drinks reception and gala dinner alongside George Clarke, from Channel 4’s ‘Amazing Spaces’, who presented the award for Great Britain’s apprentice of the year once the ceremony got underway.
Managing Director, Chris Miller, and Accounts Director, Danielle Miller, both attended the event on behalf of Lincolnshire-based, The Roofing Corporation. The award recognises the training and opportunities that the company has provided to its roofing apprentices.
Currently, Chris employs and mentors three roofing and slating apprentices. His Level 3 Roof Slating and Tiling apprentice, Joe Turner, has recently set the standard for the company’s other trainees, Joseph Osborne (second year apprentice) and Oscar Miller (first year apprentice), following his gold medal win at WorldSkill’s Skillbuild UK national roofing competition last week.
All of the Roofing Corporation apprentices are trained on the job, as well as attending regular classes at college. Joe, who attends Leeds College of Building (LCB), is not only testament to the training provided through The Roofing Corporation, but also to his college course.
Chris Messenger, Lecturer at LCB’s roofing department said, “I am so proud of Joe, he has worked incredibly hard and deserves his gold. He is the third successive gold medal winner for us here at LCB and is an incredible asset to his employers at The Roofing Corporation.”
