ROOFING AND BUILDING MATERIALS supplier SIG has revealed a drop in UK sales in 2019.
The company sells roofing and exteriors products in the UK and France, as well as distributing insulation and interiors products across Europe.
In a trading update following the end of the calendar year, the company revealed sales in its Exteriors division dropped by 8.6 per cent compared with 2018, with total UK and Ireland sales dropping by 15.5 per cent.
Refocus on roofing and insulation
The company plans to focus on these core businesses by selling off divisions working in air handing and business solutions.
A statement accompanying the results read: “The group has made considerable progress during the year in transforming its business.”
It continued: “This progress has been made against a backdrop of challenging market conditions.
“The group has been reporting an ongoing deterioration during the year in the level of construction activity in key markets and key indicators continue to point to further weakening, principally in the UK.
“The group has also experienced some challenges in sustaining sales rates during a period of considerable and rapid organisational change.
“This deterioration in sales accelerated during December, with sales per working day in the month around a quarter lower than November.”
