THE BRANCH Director of SIG Roofing in Melrose took to the sky with his colleague as part of a fundraiser for the British Heart Foundation and The Borders Dialysis Unit at Borders General Hospital.
To commemorate their 50th birthdays, Kevin Purves and Jamie Glover took part in a tandem 15,000 ft skydive. So far, they have raised over £400 for each charity, with SIG Roofing pledging to match the sponsorship, doubling the donation to nearly £2,000 in total.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It’s only thanks to generous donations such as these that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures.
Meanwhile, The Borders Dialysis Unit at the BGH provides an enhanced kidney dialysis unit at the facility, with the capacity to cater for 54 patients at once and had the ability to allow people to be cared for nearer to home.
Kevin commented, “The two charities we chose were really close to mine and Jamie’s heart and we had close family members who had benefitted from the work the unit carried out. The generosity of our friends, family, colleagues and even local customers of SIG Roofing in Melrose has been overwhelming.
“We hope the money raised can play a small part in helping to continue the incredible work that the British Heart Foundation and The Borders Dialysis Unit carries out. Now we’ve achieved this, the sky’s the limit.”
