The Opportunity

Due to expansion and client-led demand, Protech Roofing has decided to set up a new division within the company covering Small Works and Planned, Preventative Maintenance services. Although they currently provide a PPM service, it is now time to take this to the next level.

So, this is your chance to set up the new division from scratch. You will have full responsibility – from winning new contracts to hiring operatives.

Ideal Candidate

You will have significant experience in a similar role, but perhaps you are feeling unappreciated and stagnant in your current position? … Perhaps you are looking for a new challenge where you can really make an impression? You will have strong Project Management and People Management skills, with a solid knowledge of Health and Safety.

You will have the skills required to hire the right operatives- those who are ready and willing to take on the small (but very important) jobs that some of the tradesmen are reluctant to carry out, such as cleaning gutters etc.

  • Previous roofing experience, with a knowledge of both flat and pitched roofing
  • Clean Driving Licence
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety and best practice
  • Substantial experience of managing small works and PPM, and the staff, operatives and sub-contractors working on it.
  • Pro-active and good at planning ahead as far as possible as the project progresses; checking back to plans/programmes regularly
  • Strong sense of achievement; able to drive actions forward, expecting good standards of work from yourself and others, and able to overcome barriers and solve problems.
  • Organised, excellent at time management and prioritisation of work.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and best practice.
  • Flexible, with a good sense of humour.
  • And a good head for heights… you may have to pitch-in and lend a hand, especially in the early days!


Reporting directly to the MD, you will be responsible for managing the various small works projects and maintenance contracts, including staff and any contractors onsite.

Duties will include:

  • Developing, in conjunction with the MD, the scope of the small works.
  • Ensuring that all Small Works are delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality & regulative standards.
  • Ensuring the Small Works is effectively resourced and that you manage relationships with a wide range of groups.
  • Identifying and highlighting any risks, ensuring that these are eliminated at the first instance. If unable to eliminate, the risk should be mitigated and escalated within management and with the client.
  • Communicating effectively at all times with everyone affected by the small works and PPM, particularly the client.
  • Reviewing all finances on projects/ contracts to ensure that they are on track
  • Attending and takes notes of any meetings relevant to your role, either on site or in the office.
  • Developing and maintaining working programme and schedules
  • Managing all deliverables, in line with the Small Works and PPM plans.
  • Recording and managing any issues and escalating where necessary.
  • Resolving cross-functional issues at small works level.
  • Managing small works and PPM scope and ensuring changes are controlled.
  • Monitoring and reporting progress and performance to client and MD.
  • Constantly updating your knowledge and understanding of H&S/ CDM regulations.
