The Lead Sheet Training Academy (LSTA) is at the forefront of training for those using lead or hard metals in the construction industry.
To deliver this training the LSTA operates from a state of the art, purpose-built training facility in East Peckham, Kent which is open five-days a week all year round.
The training centre includes full scale training rigs and resources as well as providing a well-equipped environment in which to learn as it re-creates real-life situations. The centre is recognised as a City & Guilds accredited centre and CITB Approved Training Organisation.
Our tutors are industry qualified and experienced trainers, holding qualifications in leadwork, hard metals and teaching. They have experience of working on-site and are CITB-approved assessors.
CITB grants are available to meet most course fees for employees of CITB registered construction businesses. LSTA can offer pay-as-you-learn for courses longer than 5-days.
Lead and Hard Metals Courses
The LSTA delivers City & Guilds and CITB Approved Basic, Intermediate and advanced Lead or hard metals courses, Specialist Applied skills Programmes, On Site Assessment Training and tailored training to meet contractor’s needs.
Our most popular courses are the Basic Bossing and Welding Courses for both lead and hard metals, and our intermediate courses which can be split into modular format. This method of delivery allows contractors flexibility in completing the modules and the ability to pay as you learn, making it more affordable and flexible.
Our Heritage Skills course whilst very specialist includes some very advanced techniques so it’s brilliant to see our students master them, and then go on to apply them successfully on such a wide range of important heritage projects. There is a clear demand which supports the need for training to continue across the sector to ensure Career Professional Development continues and that the next generation are not disadvantaged by recent events and continue their chosen career paths.
Head Trainer at the LSTA, Simon Wood, says that helping talented tradespeople expand their skillset is the best part of his job: “It’s very rewarding to see students’ skills improve and develop over their time spent at the LSTA. We take a lot of pride in the quality of our work here and it’s great to be able to pass on our knowledge to others, and to help set a high standard across the industry with our City & Guilds accredited courses.
Health & Safety
Health & Safety when using lead is taken very seriously and is a perfectly safe product to use as long as some simple guidelines are followed, health & Safety is the first module we teach on all our courses.
Lead is known to last hundreds of years and its longevity is unrivalled. It’s also a very low maintenance material and if applied correctly should not need any maintenance other than a regulatory check from time to time. lead is 100% recyclable and the majority of lead used for flashing is already coming from recyclable sources. It is also featured in the Building Research Establishment (BRE) Green Guide as an eco-product with an A and A+ rating.
LSTA Satellite Centres
The LSTA’s delivery of lead courses is further enhanced with the work we do alongside our Satellite Centre’s delivering Bossing & Welding courses in Scotland, Wales and across the south of England. The courses are taught by extremely experienced trainers who have been taught and trained at the Lead Sheet Training Academy. All courses are accredited through City & Guilds which is a great quality mark for employees, contractors and the industry.
